Skincare Routine - Eyes & Lips

So I only just realised that I completely missed out my eye and lip products from my skincare routine!! How naughty of me. So here they are!

From left to right (ish!):

Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream
I use this first to prep my lips before any lip products and before bed, you can read why I love this stuff here along with a tip explaining how I use it!

Blistex MedPlus for Lips
Probably the best lip balm in the world. I have one in my handbag, one on my bedside and one in my car! It's got Jojoba oil and Vitamin E in it and moisturises beautifully and effectively. I even use it after the Elizabeth Arden for guaranteed nourishment.

Blistex Intensive Moisturiser
Another great one by Blistex, I really recommend their lip products. This one is great as it has an SPF of 10 and is the one I always use when I'm away on holiday. It's brilliant and minty just like the MedPlus.

Boots Essentials Cucumber Eye Gel
Probably the cheapest product I use on my face - £1.50!! This stuff is so good. Honestly, I don't think I would ever spend more on an eye gel unless Boots discontinue this stuff. It's SO cooling on the eyes. Feels great in the mornings when your feeling tired and groggy and makes the eye area look awake. It has a nice texture, it's not harsh and it does the job. Pick one up on your next trip to Boots and see what you think!

Emu Oil Well Moisturising Eye Cream
Such a great eye cream, it's the only one I use - morning and evening. It is super, super moisturising, light enough for the eye area and hydrates all day. It's the perfect concealer companion if you find yours can go dry and cakey *sticks hand in air!*

Indeed Labs Peptalash Eyelash Serum
Been trying this out for a few weeks now twice a day, not sure what I think of it yet.....hmmm. I'll report back!

-

So that was my eye and lip products in all their glory - which products do you use?

My Current Skincare Routine - Morning & Evening

Finally! A new post. So sorry for the delay - see my previous post to find out why.

I have been wanting to show you all my skincare routine for a long time now, but it was never quite right. Finding products that really work for your skin and knowing your skin inside out is hard. It's so easy to just buy products on the basis that other people are using them but not actually looking and observing what those products are doing for your skin. I've tried copious amounts of products over the years, and these are the ones that really provide results for me, and that have changed my skin for the better. It is also important to know your skin type when choosing products, my skin for the most part is combination and dehydrated, but your skin can become slightly different at different times of the year.

Cleansing & Exfoliating

St.Ives Naturally Clear Apricot Scrub
The best facial scrub on this earth, hands down. I have used this scrub for so, so long and will always repurchase it. It's the greatest product for really buffing your skin to get a smooth, polished and un-clogged result. The exfoliants are 100% natural and are ground apricot stones - sounds harsh but the granules are not too rough on the skin and the gritty texture of the scrub makes it so effective at sloughing away dead skin and combatting blackheads. This scrub also contains Salicylic acid which is great for un-clogging pores as it penetrates the pore and cleans it out - fab, no? What's even more fab is that you can purchase this from many Supermarkets, Pharmacies, Boots and it is on offer at the moment at Superdrug for £1.99! Seriously, go out and buy one now! You won't regret it. I use this 3-4 times a week, usually in the mornings to make me feel clean after sleeping.

Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser
There's not much to say about this cleanser apart from it's fab fab fab. I have already ordered my second bottle, and it's safe to say I can't live without this stuff. It's a lovely, luxurious cream cleanser that smells herbal and beautiful. It moisturises with Cocoa Butter as it cleanses and melts away dirt and grime. It tones gently with Eucalyptus oil, Chamomile and Rosemary - perfect before bedtime which is when I use it as my night time first cleanse. (I always double cleanse). A fantastic no-fuss cleanser that just works. It cleanses, it tones, it moisturises and the natural ingredients help my skin to stay smooth, soft and in-check!

Balance Me Pure Skin Face Wash Skin-Balancing Cleanser
(The lid went astray so I had to re-pot it into this travel pot from Boots! Oops)
My favourite cleanser of them all, this is really great for daytime as it keeps my combination skin really balanced so it doesn't over-produce oil. I love it because it doesn't strip my skin of its moisture like a lot of cleansers do. It cleanses in a gentle but effective way, getting rid of all dirt and grime while moisturising, balancing and smelling utterly delicious. It's got an interesting jelly texture and creates a nice creamy but mild lather when used on damp skin and massaged well. I got the 50ml sample in Glamour magazine, and will definitely be repurchasing the full size when I'm almost out! I really recommend this for normal/combination skins that need a little help with keeping everything balanced.

Algenist Gentle Rejuvenating Cleanser with Alguronic Acid
The magical silver Algenist cleanser - yep, this cleanser is silver! This is such a great one for keeping my skin tone nice and even. Being half-Caribbean I do suffer with darkened skin in areas where I shave or wax and have been prone to darkness on my top lip from waxing as well as scars becoming dark and some dark pigmentation areas. I never really thought there was much I could do about it, until I discovered this cleanser containing Alguronic acid which has proven extremely effective for evening out skin tone and brightening. Since using this cleanser I have seen a real difference in my darker areas, my face is all one colour! It really makes a difference as foundation becomes less of a necessity and my skin looks much more bright and perfected on it's own, without the use of make-up.

Morning

Lancome Tonique Doucer
My favourite toner for softening and tightening everything up, it smells delicious and really preps my skin for make-up. It's so soothing on my skin and isn't harsh at all, it's alcohol free and hydrates as it tones - an all in one! I love it.

Caudalie Beauty Elixir
I can't even explain how much I love this stuff, I would wear it as perfume - the smell is beautiful! It's a strong scent, extremely minty and herbal but gorgeous. It doesn't feel like a harsh toner on my skin, it's like an injection of moisture and goodness after my skin has been toned and softened with the Lancome. I do three sprays all over my face and work it in with my fingers to really get the most out of it. It's packed with essential oils and contains no parabens or nasties. I heard a lot of people say that it helped combat blemishes and I have hardly had any since using this, which is surely a good sign? I use it as a sort of serum/toner which is what it's been branded as, and I don't feel using two toner type products is drying my skin in any way as they are both gentle formulas with plenty of good ingredients, not just an astringent drying toner like some. The Caudalie does contain alcohol, but it hasn't irritated or stripped my skin like some other alcohol based toners have. All in all, a thumbs up, and a definite re-purchase!

Hydraluron Serum
I wrote about this briefly a few posts back, and I stand by my opinions on it - this stuff is incredible. I noticed a difference with this after one day of use, one day! It plumps the skin, makes moisturiser more effective and has made my skin the smoothest I've ever seen it. I knew that I had quite dehydrated skin, but once you use this serum it really makes you realise how much extra juice your skin needs! It's a hero product in my eyes and one I definitely will repurchase. I use this before moisturising to get the most hydration out of my moisturiser.

Clarins HydraQuench Lotion with SPF 15
A new moisturiser for me, and a fab one at that. I have previously raved about my all time favourite moisturiser the La Roche Posay Effaclar Mat, which is still amazing and I use it at night time for going out as I don't need SPF. For daytime this Clarins one is just great, it's got SPF 15 which is just enough for English weather in my opinion, and although I have ranted about the importance of sun protection, it's been proven that an SPF 15 can be a more effective barrier against the sun's effects than a higher SPF such as an SPF 30? I don't know how true this is, however I feel an SPF 15 is a medium and substantial amount of protection for everyday where I live and allows me to get my Vitamin D that the sun gives our skin! The SPF is definitely apparent in this moisturiser as its a creamy white colour and when applied, takes a few seconds for it to sink in and the white colour to disappear. This moisturiser really hydrates with Hyaluronic acid but isn't overly creamy and rich so it keeps me really hydrated but not oily - result! It smells nice, the texture is lovely and it makes my skin look glowing and plump, something the Effaclar Mat doesn't do! I am loving this so far, and I am really impressed with the results it's given. I really recommend it if you're a tad oily in your t-zone but also dehydrated, and your looking for something light and hydrating.

Evening

Liz Earle Instant Boost Skin Tonic
The most calming and soothing tonic for before bed, I use this every night without fail! It smells so good, like roses, and is soothing and moisturising on the skin. Perfect if your skin is irritated, if you've been in the sun and at night to calm your skin down and balance everything out. I enjoy putting this on my face so much, it's just a pleasure to use. It is alcohol free and I wouldn't even class it as a toner, it's a tonic that gives your skin a boost of soothing ingredients such as Aloe Vera and Cucumber but keeps everything moisturised with Vitamin E - can't recommend it enough.

Murad Exfoliating Blemish Treatment Gel
A fairly new product for me, but I have already noticed what this treatment can do on a few blemishes on my jaw. You are supposed to use this all over the face as a treatment before moisturiser, but I also use it as a targeted spot treatment for exfoliating and getting rid of spots fast. It's really effective and not harsh or drying on the skin which a lot of spot products are. It smells like a spot product should smell - quite astringent but not too harsh. I don't use this every night, but I do use it when I have a few blemishes or feel my skin is congested.

REN Omega 3 Night Repair Serum
This is a great serum if you don't mind the smell of fish - haha! All jokes aside, this serum does smell a quite fishy and I am not allowed to put it on if my boyfriend is present! Despite the fishy smell, it delivers great results, whenever I use this my skin looks really bright and glowing in the morning. The effects are quite instant on me so I would even use it during the day as a sort of mask if I had something important to go to in the evening. The consistency is very oily but not too greasy so I wouldn't really class it as a serum, it's more of a night oil. Overall I really like it, unsure as to wether I would repurchase though as I feel that there could be something more effective for me.

TRI-Peptox Collagen+ Overnight Recharge
This was an impulse buy as it was half-price in Sainsbury's and I had run out of my La Roche Posay Redermic+. I wasn't expecting anything miraculous for around £4 but I am really impressed with it! It's got a really nice consistency and feels super hydrating. It's just a really lovely night cream that does everything I needs it to, it's plumping, hydrating and it promises long term effects. I will report back on wether this is staying in my routine, but I am really happy with it so far.

La Roche-Posay Effaclar K
An alternative pre-moisturising treatment as opposed to the Murad one. I picked this up at Boots on a whim when my skin was congested and I do quite like it, I've had it for a while and do use it very often on areas of my skin that are becoming clogged or spot prone. You can use it as a moisturiser and it's great base for make-up as it's really light. It gave good results on my t-zone as far as oil production went, so I continued using it and was quite impressed! As with all La Roche Posay products I've found you don't need a lot, the silky thermal spring water formula spreads really easily and feels like water on the skin. A nice, gentle treatment for oily/combinations skins and affordable too!

So that's my current skincare routine - no doubt it will change and be added to over time, but at the moment these products are ones that I am really loving and that have worked for my skin!

Let me know if you have used any of the products mentioned or are thinking about purchasing any. I am always willing to answer your questions and comments!

Apologies for my absense!

Hello everyone,

I'd just like to say a big "Im sorry!" for not updating for a week! I was on holiday in beautiful Costa Almeria, Spain and it was lovely. I didn't bring my Macbook out there with me hence why there hasn't been any posts.

I do have a few things lined up that I prepared before I went away, so I hope to get them up over the course of the next few days.

Lots of love, and stay tuned!

Want soft, smooth lips? Beauty Tip #1: Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Skin Protectant

Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Skin Protectant - 30ml

For smooth, soft lips, all you need is this bad boy and a cutip! I got this little method from Lisa Eldridge (my fav make-up artist, view her blog here) so credit goes to her!

-

You can use this cream on it's own as a lip balm, massage it deeply into your lips with your finger for soft, supple lips.

- or -

Use it with a cutip. Squeeze a tiny bit of the cream onto the end of your cutip (a little goes a long way) and massage the cutip into your lips back and forward as if your scrubbing. You may not think it but this scrubbing with the cutip mixed with the cream buffs away dry and dead skin on your lips and leaves them feeling so smooth! Make sure you massage the cutip around your lips well and with a little elbow grease for maximum results as the cream works effectively when buffed in so those ingredients can get to work!

This eight hour cream by Elizabeth Arden is fabulous and a great multi tasker. I use this morning and night to condition and exfoliate my lips and it can be used on all sorts - dry and chapped skin, sores, irritations, you name it!

It uses Vitamin E and Salicylic acid to moisturise and break down dead skin cells and is over half of it's ingredients is Petrolatum (Basically Vaseline). If it were not for other other soothing and moisturising ingredients I probably wouldn't think much of this cream, but the Vitamin E and BHA make it really effective on many areas of skin.

I like products like this that you can use on anything as they are really good value for money and you get your money's worth.

I have the travel size 30ml version which I will be taking away with my in my hand luggage, but the standard size of this is 50ml and is available from Beauty Expert for £25.00.

-

If you're on a budget or don't have the Elizabeth Arden, try it with Vaseline and a cutip and see if you get that same exfoliation - I'd love to know!!

New Additions: Hydraluron and Peptalash

Hydraluron Moisture Booster Serum and Peptalash Eyelash Serum - both £29.99 and available at Boots.

So I was reading Caroline, my favourite beauty expert's blog, and she did a post about the Hydraluron serum by Indeed Labs. (You can click here to visit her blog, she is a skin specialist so it's great to see what she thinks about products!) She wrote about the serum in one of her 'Hall of Fame' posts, dedicated to products that she thinks are outstanding and deserve recognition. So seeing as she hadn't done one of those posts for 9 months!, I knew that this serum had to be something special.

After reading the review, I went straight to Boots online to order it but it was sold out! They did come back in stock a day or two later though and I ordered it then. Caroline said she used the serum for 3 days and decided to put it in the hall of fame, impressive! So what does this serum do?

Caroline explains what the serum does really well, so I will paraphrase it and explain:

It is designed to hydrate your skin and utilises your moisturiser more so that it is more effective at hydrating your skin. It does this by using Hyaluronic acid, which can absorb 1000x it's weight in water, meaning that when you put your moisturiser on top, it helps the water and moisture to stay in your skin for longer, keeping you really hydrated. This was such an important factor for me because although I have combination/oily skin, it is dehydrated. I believe that the dehydration of my skin is causing it to over produce oil and I think it is because of the weather we're having at the moment too. Hyaluronic acid also increases healing time and provides a lower risk of bacteria on the skin. So if you suffer from acne or spots this is great for you.

It doesn't have lots of unecessary ingredients like many serums do which is great, it's full of the necessary stuff with no nasties added in, making me confident to put this on my skin.

I have only been using this serum for a few days but my god, when I looked at my face in the mirror halfway through the day, I couldn't believe how different it looked. My skin looked really plumped up and glowing but not shiny one bit, it was rather odd actually as I usually have to powder at least once a day to stay semi-matte looking.

I will do a proper review on this once I have been using it for longer but I have to say, its been great so far. Admittedly I wish it was in a bigger tube, but for a serum that really, really works, £24.99 for 30ml is better than paying £100+ for a fancy serum that is filled with lots of parabens and chemicals that might not produce the same results, and I would happily, happily repurchase. Plus, the tiny little tube is so cute and transportable, and I will no doubt be using this in-flight when I jet off on holiday Saturday, as the plane notoriously strips the skins moisture and leaves my skin dehydrated. (Stay tuned for my 'What am I taking on holiday?' post!! Coming soon.)

Boots currently have an offer on: If you buy the Hydraluron, Nanoblur or Snoxin, you get a free Peptalash Eyelash Serum worth £24.99.

This is how I acquired my Peptalash serum (shown above). I will try to write about it after testing it out for 2 weeks, but I haven't yet seen any results obviously as I have used it about twice since I got it.

The serum claims to thicken and lengthen eyelashes with visible results in just 2 weeks - I am slightly sceptic however I will let you all know how I get on! The thought of having long, luscious eyelashes  is just too good to be true!

So on face value, Indeed Labs seem to have some impressive products - I am worried that I won't be able to get my hands on the Hydraluron for much longer as it is exclusive to Boots. Hopefully it sells well and they keep it permanently!

Hope you liked the post! Don't forget to follow :-)

Supermarket Beauty #2: Hair & Skincare

Left to Right: St.Ives Naturally Clear Apricot Scrub, L'Oreal Elvive Full Restore 5 Shampoo, Aussie, 3 Minute Miracle Reconstructor, Phil Smith Ageless Intensive Vitality Conditioner

This 'Supermarket Beauty' post is about just a few of my favourite bargain beauty buys that can be found in the supermarket, and I believe they all come in at under £5 each - bargain!!

The first product is probably my favourite of the lot and is St.Ives Apricot Scrub for oily/blemish prone skin. This scrub is fantastic not only that but the tube is mammoth and I have had this for months on end! I am only just nearing the end so this is brilliant value for money.

What I love about this scrub is that the exfoliants are crushed apricot stones, making the texture of the scrub really lovely and gritty but not harsh on the skin at all. I get a little of this on my finger and a tiny splash of warm water and work this all over my skin at least a few times a week or when my skin is congested. The gritty texture makes it a very effective scrub, I can't stand those rubbish ones with hardly any beads that feel like they are doing nothing!

This scrub sloughs off all the dead skin, and helps clean up your nose if your prone to large pores and blackheads like you've never seen before! It does this with key ingredient Salicylic Acid which penetrates the pores and clears them out - extremely effective.

I really really cannot recommend this scrub enough, and I have repurchased this a few times in the past few years. This is a staple in my skin regime and I will be buying a back-up for this one soon!! Plus - it smells divine! If you want a smooth, radiant complexion then use this 3-4 times a week for a polished look.

This is often on offer in Superdrug so pick up a couple if you get a chance :-)

If you live in the UK, you probably remember those amusing adverts that Cheryl Cole did for L'Oreal where her accent was borderline inaudible - haha I'm so mean! But she was the ambassador for this range by L'Oreal and it's the Full Restore 5 range, claiming to target Strength, Vitality, Shine, Silkiness and Density to bring hair back to optimum strength and health after being damaged by over-processing.

I had the conditioner of this also and it was pretty good. I like this shampoo as it feels really nourishing on my hair and contains Keratin - a key ingredient for strength. The tubes of L'Oreal shampoo's and conditioners are mammoth also, so you get a lot for your money!

Now for my two favourite supermarket conditioners - this Aussie one is really, really amazing. I remember the first time I used it, it literally fixed my split ends and in a matter of 3 minutes? What? I couldn't believe the results as I wasn't expecting much considering this conditioner is under a fiver!

You leave it on for 3 minutes, however I usually leave it on much longer as a masque, and it reconstructs the hair shaft. It makes your hair feel so soft and silky and is a great one to use regularly to improve the overall conditioner of your hair. I use it every time I wash my hair and I can't be without it!
It's something I always have in the bathroom as the results are just great and for the price, you can't beat it.

It smells amazing and the texture is really nice too, it's got lots of lovely ingredients in it such as Aloe Vera and Australian Balm mint, and it leaves your hair smelling luscious afterwards. All Aussie products smell amazing!

This is another product that is on offer a lot in the supermarkets, particularly ASDA. So keep a look out and grab yourself a bargain!

Now I know this conditioner says 'Age-less' but ignore that - this is a fabulous conditioner for strength. I always use this on my roots and my ends to really strengthen everything up as I am prone to extreme breakage in those areas of my hair. Another one I just picked up not expecting it to be great, but I went and repurchased it after loving what it did to my hair!

The scent is strong and perfume-y but I love it. The Keratin active really gives my hair it's strength back and I always notice a difference in the shine and condition after I use it.

I haven't tried any other Phil Smith products but this conditioner makes me want to see what else they have to offer!

This conditioner really does work, and I don't feel like it just coats my hair in nasties making it feel strong and soft when it actually isn't. I also use it as an intense treatment when I'm really in need of help, and leave it on for up to an hour while I'm doing other bits around the house.

I really recommend this one, and don't be fooled by the name!

So those are a few of my Supermarket Beauty picks for this week, I hope you enjoyed it :-)

Review: NARS Blush in Amour

NARS Cosmetics Blush in 'Amour'

Amour, a beautiful blush by the amazing NARS Cosmetics. Every product I have from NARS I love, the quality is just like no other and this blush is no exception.

I would describe 'Amour' as a deep pink and leans slightly red on my skin tone. It looks matte in the packaging but has a slight sheen to it which can be see in the swatch with flash below.

I picked out this blush when I was at the NARS counter because I thought the colour would be perfect against my golden skin tone. I think women of colour find it hard to get a good blush shade that doesn't go ashy on the skin and actually gives a vibrant pop of colour. If you are searching for a gorgeous, deep pink blush that can be worn every day - this one is it!

PIGMENTED is not even the word to describe this blush. One tiny, tiny tap with the brush and you are good to apply. The colour is so rich and vibrant, I nearly always have to buff it out with my Givenchy Pinceau Bronzer Brush. So lighter skinned girls, use a very light hand with this blush as it can be quite unsuspecting!

The guy at the counter even nodded and agreed with this blush choice for my skin when I picked it out and said I wanted it, having golden/tan skin I can get away with a slightly darker blush and this one is just right for me.

Swatch 1 - With flash
The flash really over exaggerates the sheen, I would say this blush looks matte on the skin, so don't be put off if you don't like shiny blushes!

Swatch 2 - Without flash, natural lighting
This is a nice representation of the shade, excuse my clock I had to lay it down to get it out of the way for the picture!

-

Out of 5:

Pigmentation: 5/5 - The colour pay off is amazing.
Texture: 5/5 - Really velvety and not chalky at all, makes application a dream.
Longevity: 3/5 - Lasts a good 5 hours on my combination skin.
Packaging: 5/5 - The gorgeous matte black NARS packaging, gets filthy easily but can be wiped off. It looks so chic! It's easy to open and close to and has a really great sized mirror inside.

Product: 5/5 - I love love love this blush!

You can pick up the NARS Blush in Amour from narscosmetics.co.uk for £21.00.

Hope you enjoyed the review! :-)
